RMAFC has recognized Kogi as one of Nigeria’s oil-producing states, and Kogi’s governor, Yahaya Bello, has thanked President Muhammadu Buhari on behalf of the state government.
Onogwu Muhammed, Onogwu’s Chief Press Secretary, reportedly conveyed Mr. President’s “thank you” message during a Tuesday visit to the State House, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
At the Villa, Bello revealed to reporters that he discussed with him the revival of Kogi State’s Ajaokuta Steel Complex, according to the statement.
My visit this afternoon was intended as a thank-you for the recognition of Kogi State as one of Nigeria’s oil-producing states, he explained.
We also talked about the Ajaokuta Steel Complex, about which Mr. Obasanjo said “all efforts are being made to ensure that the Steel Complex is completed before the end of his administration.”
After the recognition of Kogi and Anambra, the long-running oil well dispute between two communities of Odeke in Ibaji local government area of Kogi and Aguleri in Anambra state has been resolved, he said, praising Mr. President for resolving the dispute in a peaceful manner.
There has been a long oil crisis in Ibaji, which has resulted in extensive property damage and the loss of many lives.
Communities in Kogi and Anambra claimed exclusive ownership of the oil in the disputed area, which has now been settled in favor of both states.
